Day Seventeen: June 5th 2013

YAWN. YAWN. YAWN.

Well, I'm sleepy, but it's WAY cooler up here. This morning, it was only +27! What a welcome temperature. We'll be sleeping up this way for the rest of the time we're in Las Vegas.

We got up and drove to the Red Rocks National Park. $30 for a annual pass. Breakfast was needed, so we parked in the second parking lot of the Black Corridor and cooked up a storm.  We climbed Black Corridor before the sun creeped in. After a couple hours in the corridor, we headed up to climb the trad route 'The Great Red Book'. It was so hot out. The hike up to the trad climb made me exhausted.

I lead the first pitch of the 2 pitch climb. I pretty much shit myself the entire way, because I don't really climb trad that often and well, it's scary. It was only a 5.7 + 5.8 pitch climb, but because I was placing gear, I was scared. I did it successfully though, and we did beat the sunshine that was slowly creeping in our rock face. Ben lead the second pitch with no issues and followed. We crested up on the top of the route through a neat chimney and into the scorching hot sunshine.

The only thing on our minds was: GET OUT OF THE SUN. So, we found the 'path' back down to the Black Corridor and into the shade. Water water water water.

We did a couple short climbs in the corridor and called it quits for the day. Time for lunch. The afternoon and evening played out the same as it normally does in this heat: Food, water, driving around (this time we drove around almost all of the Vegas area looking for a Truck topper dealership.. for hours........ and hours........), sight seeing and then to the cooler mountain temperatures.

This heat makes us tired. We turned in early and passed out in our truck.
