Day Sixteen: June 4th 2013

It’s +40 at 9am. How is that even possible?? This is ridiculous.

We woke up early, as it was too bloody hot to sleep in. We went straight to the Black Corridor in Red Rocks to climb in the shade. What a perfect spot to do so – it’s shading most of the day and it’s all sport climbs. I had a blast. Climbing 5.9+'s to 10b/c's. Got totally pumped out and exhausted. It's hard to keep climbing throughout the day here, it's just too hot. We drank SO much water. After a good 5 hours, we headed back into Las Vegas to run errands – mailed postcards, bought ice, ate food, checked internet, etc - we needed to find a cooler place to sleep tonight. Somewhere for free camping.

With lots of internet research, we found a spot. Lovall National Park. It was up in the mountains, about 40mins from Las Vegas. We decided that we would get a storage unit to store our bikes and bags for NZ. All the big stuff that we wouldn't be using for the next week, we would get out of the way so we could sleep in the truck. It only cost us $30 and we were able to store everything for 6 days. Good idea Ben! High five.

By the time we got our stuff into storage, it was really time to start headed back into the mountains. The valley was way too hot and we were hungry. We parked our truck up near Red Rocks on a look out and made dinner. We were approached by a couple people, curious about our camping set up. This isn't the first time we have had people approach us and ask us questions. I guess out setup is pretty rad. Not to mention, Ben's truck is fucking cool - so it draws attention when we are actually outside and living out of it.

Dinner was nice, we watched a couple documentaries and drank cider.

Around 9:30pm, we headed up to Lovall road and packed it in for the night.

I had been on contact with my friend Colin, and he had mentioned that he was headed to Red Rocks to climb. He should be in the area in the next day or two - fun!
