Day Twenty-Three: June 11th 2013

I woke up to the distressful buzzing sound of flies trapped between our tent and fly. They had found a warm spot to chill for the night, but once the sun hit the tent, it became too warm and they wanted out. Being quite stupid, the flies were obviously trapped and all the commotion woke me up.

I also had to pee quite badly. So, I must remove myself from my position and fix this.

Always the first out of the tent, I feel obligated to start breakfast. So, I did. Another morning of Oatmeal and Almond Milk – this time with fresh fruit. I must admit, I’m getting mighty sick of almond milk … and almost sick of oatmeal.

My PMS is so bad today, it’s ruining my day already. I am trying extremely hard to ignore the feelings I am having .. and using this as an experiment. You see, my medication has run out, so, I believe, I am feeling the repercussions of it. I have to try VERY hard to find other methods to relieve myself of the anxiety and sadness I am feeling. Stupid hormones.

I am currently sitting in the Pine Valley park, at the Noble Trail TH parking lot, waiting for Ben to arrive from the DH Noble Trail ride. He’s been riding for about an hour and a half almost now. I’ve made him lunch and am using this time to catch up on my writing. I am sitting in his chair he bought for $10… the one I said I wouldn’t sit in ;)

It’s hot in the sunshine, and I can feel droplets of sweat dripping down my stomach and neck. I had bought myself a hat in Las Vegas, and what a good idea what was. I have twist up my hair and hide it in the hat. It’s a life saving move to cool myself off.

I’ve tried immensely hard this trip, not to touch gum. I’m chewing it right now, however. Oops.

Ben finally arrived back at the truck, about 2.5 hours after I had dropped him off at the top of the mountain. He said he got a little lost, but all and all, the ride was pretty fun. I was hesitant with riding it, as I felt a little off today… but Ben talked me into riding part of it. So, I did.

The Noble Canyon is a great ride, flowy and fast. The ride starts up the top of the Laguna Mountain, close to the Pine Valley old hwy. It shoots down a single track, in and out of alpine desert environment, until you hit a valley. This is where you encounter beautiful old oak trees and quietly flowing rivers. I also encountered a shit tone of bugs, almost hit a squirrel and crashing was quite possible.

I was sweating too.

It was fun! Ben picked me up on the Pine Valley road, where the trail intersects for the 4th time. He picked me up before there was a ridiculously big sandy up and a ridiculously big rocky down. I think he figured with the way I was feeling, these two areas wouldn’t be good for me right now. I was happy and agreed.

We packed up the truck (after a quick shower with our trusty portable shower …) and headed to San Diego! We drove straight to the HI Point Luma, got ourselves a dorm and bunkered down for the night. After a great meal, a warm shower and some Game of Thrones, we were very much ready for sleep. … which would have come easy, if this hostel wasn’t right under the flight path from the airport. So, everyone 2 mins or so, a MASSIVE loud plane shot over head. Ugh. Good night!
